National Day of Prayer marked

About 90 people from numerous Tamaqua congregations share breakfast and then participated in a time of prayer marking the National Day of Prayer. The event was sponsored by the Tamaqua Ministerial Association and hosted by Trinity UCC. The prayer service took place in Trinity’s parking lot overlooking the center of Tamaqua. The Rev, Kevin Roberts of Bethany ECC opened the prayer time. Assisting Rev. Roberts were fellow pastors Rev. Phyllis Wolford (St. John’s Lutheran), Rick Clemson (Primitive Methodist), Steve Gintz (Baptist missionary), Rev. Kevin Duffy-Guy (St. John UCC), Rev.Ed Noftz (New Life Assembly of God); and Rev. Cindy White (Zion Lutheran). Prayers were offered for government, the military, the media, business, education, churches and the family. The National Day of Prayer (the first Thursday of May) was established by an act of Congress and signed into law in 1952 by President Harry S. Truman and amended by President Ronald Reagan in 1988.
